Finally I see what all of the fuss is about!

For the 4 years we have been together, one thing has always been awkward when visiting America. SPORT! I have never really bought into US sports and dread the moment in a conversation when people talk about ‘real football’. My defence mechanisms appear and I end up reeling off every reason I know why English football is better. How dare somebody tell me that watching an NFL game is better than watching West Ham away at Stoke on a cold December afternoon.

Well anyway we were given the opportunity to watch an NFL game over Christmas and all I can say is WOW! The atmosphere in Seattle was electric and for the few hours I was there I could see the appeal of following a team and worshiping the players that put their bodies on the line for them. I enjoyed the game so much that since I have been back in China I have looked at buying Seahawks gear and even got up early last Saturday to watch the playoff game. Now all I am thinking about is a potential SUPERBOWL game during our Chinese New Year holiday!

So, to me American football is not ‘real football’, but it is still one hell of a sport all the same!

Voodoo Doughnut

A few summers ago we were fortunate enough to visit Voodoo Doughnut‘s in Portland. We had heard about this place from Anthony Bourdain’s ‘No Reservations’ and also on Man vs Food so obviously we had to try it!

Even though it was a few years ago, I can still remember the incredible taste of the ‘Bacon Maple Bar Doughnut’ and the quirkiness of the signature ‘Voodoo Doll Doughnut’.

What I couldn’t really remember was the customer service or ambiance within the shop. So I was excited to read an article today about life as a Voodoo Doughnut employee. Two things that stood out for me from the article were, the attitude of the staff towards customers and the amount of money that was being made selling doughnuts, and I am talking a lot of money!

This article is definitely worth a read and despite the negative annotations from the author I would, without doubt, recommend visiting Voodoo Doughnut’s if you are ever in Portland, Oregon!

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is baking cookies. Today was sugar cookies and Mexican Wedding Bells, maybe more to come.
