Time to travel

We’ve completed our first term at Wellington Tianjin!  After a fabulous staff party last night at the St Regis, we are ready to think about heading off to the states for my first Christmas at home in four years.  A quick trip to the pet market today and we’ve got everything Ravi should need whilst we are gone.  Suitcases are out and nearly all packed.  One last sleep and we begin our traveling tomorrow.  Two hour bus journey to Beijing, flight to Vancouver, Canada and finally arriving in Portland, Oregon.  It is quite a amazing with the time zones we will be landing 2 and a half hours earlier than we departed!

Dumplings on our doorstep

We have had the chance to sample a small portion of street food here in Tianjin.  To our delight a new vendor has set up shop just outside our apartment.  And double delight was that he was selling dumplings, our new favourite dish.  For 60p or $0.98 we had a heaping bowl of pork dumplings, a perfect snack to end the day!

Beijing take 2: The Great Wall

A few weeks ago we took our second trip to Beijing.   Out of Tianjin on the Friday night train, on the town for a bit and up early for a drive out to The Great Wall for a hike.  About ten of us from school joined up with Beijing Hikers for the Jiankou ‘Big West’ Great Wall Hike.  It was our first experience with an organised hike and we really enjoyed it.  We found the entire excursion organised, convenient, good value for money and very interesting.  It was a beautiful autumn day, with blue sky and amazing views.  We were back home in Tianjin by nine in the evening and felt pleased to have really made the most of our weekend!
